News Capsule: Rising Demand Boosts Enthusiasm in India’s Cardamom-Growing Regions
★ Despite continuous rainfall from May to October, India’s cardamom output for this season is expected to reach 30,000–32,000 tonnes, supported by an expansion in cultivated area and better investment in the sector.
★ Prices are likely to remain firm in the range of ₹2,400–2,700 per kg over the next 3–4 months. In Guatemala, production is projected at 16,000–20,000 tonnes, as recovery from last year’s El Niño–induced drought remains slow. Consequently, India has emerged as the world’s largest cardamom producer for the past two consecutive seasons.
★ With strong domestic and export demand, India’s cardamom market is expected to remain stable and well-supported. Some farmers are strategically holding back stocks to time their sales.
★ Exporters are focusing on premium grades (6–8 mm) of cardamom in preparation for Ramzan 2026 and Gulfood 2026, while the shortage of smaller grades is creating a supply–demand imbalance. To capitalize on high demand, strategic adjustments in export prices—currently around $28–30 per kg—are being recommended.
