News Capsule: Rising government procurement of foodgrains
★ The Centre procured a total of 122.3 million tonnes (1,223 lakh tonnes) of foodgrains from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) in 2024-25.
★ In 2023-24, procurement stood at 108.9 million tonnes (1,089 lakh tonnes), while in 2022-23 it was 111.8 million tonnes (1,118 lakh tonnes).
★ Payments to farmers through MSP operations rose to INR 3.47 trillion in 2024-25, compared with INR 2.63 trillion in 2023-24 and INR 2.47 trillion in 2022-23.
