News Capsule: Sri Lanka – Maximum retail prices announced for imported rice varieties
★ The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) of Sri Lanka has announced new maximum retail prices (MRP) for various imported rice varieties, effective from October 21.
★ According to the gazette notification, the maximum retail price of imported raw rice has been set at 210 Sri Lankan rupees per kilogram, while imported Nadu rice will be sold at a maximum of 220 rupees per kilogram.
★ The MRP of imported Samba rice has been fixed at 230 rupees per kilogram, Ponni Samba at 240 rupees, and Keeri Ponni Samba at 255 rupees per kilogram.
★ The CAA stated that these price control measures have been introduced to protect consumers from unjustified price increases and to ensure fair pricing in the market.
