News Capsule: Sugar Production Rises in Maharashtra
★ Maharashtra recorded higher sugar production this season. As of January 18, 2026, crushing of 72.447 million tonnes of sugarcane has resulted in sugar output of 6.549 million tonnes, with an average recovery rate of 9.04%. A total of 198 sugar mills (98 cooperative and 100 private) are currently operating in the state.
★ In the same period last year, cane crushing stood at 51.868 million tonnes with sugar production of 4.591 million tonnes and an average recovery of 8.85%.
★ The Kolhapur division is leading in sugar production, with 1.685 million tonnes of sugar from 15.844 million tonnes of cane and the highest recovery of 10.64%. The Pune division is ahead in cane crushing, processing 16.66 million tonnes and producing 1.546 million tonnes of sugar.
★ Solapur division has crushed 15.594 million tonnes of cane, followed by Ahilyanagar with 8.892 million tonnes and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with 6.97 million tonnes. Nagpur division reported the lowest recovery rate at 4.42%.
