News Capsule: Volatility in Wheat Markets
★ Late last night, permission was granted for the export of 5 lakh tonnes of wheat products, but the rules are so stringent that meeting them will be very difficult.
★ Along with this, a wheat sale tender of 1.075 lakh tonnes was issued under the OMSS scheme.
★ In last week’s tender, 92% of the wheat was lifted. Similar levels of buying may be seen in the next tender as well.
★ Once again, Punjab received the highest allocation of wheat.
★ Allocation of wheat sales was fixed at 25,000 tonnes for Punjab, 15,000 tonnes for Assam, 9,500 tonnes for Haryana, and 8,000 tonnes for Uttar Pradesh.
★ The previous tender was cleared at higher prices; this tender may be cleared at slightly lower prices.
★ Wheat availability in the markets remains comfortable, and sales under the OMSS scheme are continuing.
★ The psychological impact of opening exports is likely to last only for a few days, as export norms are very strict. Trade with due discretion.
