Mumbai. India's oilmeal exports witnessed a significant decline in December 2025 due to weak performance of soy DOC (de-oiled cake). Soymeal exports had also fallen considerably in November.
Compared to the previous financial year, total oilmeal exports during the first nine months of the current financial year registered a decline of 5.5 percent, and a sharp 40 percent drop in December.
According to data compiled by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA), a leading body of the vegetable oil industry and trade, India exported a total of 29.75 lakh tonnes of oilmeal during the nine months from April to December 2025,
which was 5.50 percent lower than the 31.50 lakh tonnes shipped during April-December 2024. Similarly, the country exported 3.98 lakh tonnes of oilmeal in December 2024, which plummeted by 40 percent to 2.40 lakh tonnes in December 2025.
According to the association's data, the country exported 4.61 lakh tonnes of soymeal during the two months of November-September 2024, which decreased by more than 50 percent to 2.28 lakh tonnes during the same months of 2025.
Exports fell from 1.83 lakh tonnes in November 2024 to 1.13 lakh tonnes in November 2025, and from 2.78 lakh tonnes in December 2024 to 1.14 lakh tonnes in December 2025.
The export offer price of Indian soymeal in the global market was not competitive compared to other supplying countries.
However, there was good demand for Indian soymeal in Europe because it is made from non-GMO soybeans. According to the data, India exported 14.85 lakh tonnes of soymeal during April-December 2024, but this figure only reached 12.47 lakh tonnes during April-December 2025. As far as rapeseed meal is concerned,
its production has declined in recent months due to reduced crushing of mustard seeds. Crushing activity will pick up again when the new mustard crop arrives in February-March. Chinese importers are currently showing less interest in purchasing rapeseed meal from India.
