Peanut procurement process started in Gujarat, support under support price scheme

The peanut procurement process in Gujarat has officially begun under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme, as announced by the state’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The initiative is aimed at supporting farmers by guaranteeing them a minimum price for their produce, thereby protecting them from market fluctuations.

Key Points of the Initiative:

Locations & Centers: The procurement process will take place at more than 160 designated centers across Gujarat, including specific setups in Sabarkantha district:

7 centers for peanuts

6 centers for soybean

8 centers for rice

2 centers for moong

Support for Various Crops: While peanuts are the primary focus, the scheme also covers other essential crops like soybean, urad (black gram), and moong (green gram).

Minimum Support Price (MSP) Scheme: The procurement is part of the Government of India's MSP scheme, which aims to stabilize the market prices of key crops. Under this scheme, the government buys crops from farmers at the MSP when the market price is lower than the MSP, ensuring a fair return for the farmers.

Objective: This initiative is designed to benefit farmers by offering a safety net against volatile market conditions, ensuring that they receive at least the minimum support price for their crops.

By implementing this scheme, Gujarat is aiming to provide significant relief to farmers, especially those involved in the production of key crops like peanuts, soybean, and pulses.
