Possibility of intermittent increase in the price of black pepper

Kochi. Although the domestic market price of black pepper has already increased considerably, trade analysts are not considering this as the final rise.
They say that there are some factors at domestic and global level which can intermittently fuel the rise in the prices of black pepper.
The production in Vietnam has been less than normal and big producers and stockists have started hoarding its stock in the hope of further increase in prices, due to which the prices have increased there.
The production of black pepper in India is almost close to its usage or a little less than that, while it is also exported in large quantities.
To meet the domestic and export demand, India has to import a huge amount of black pepper from Vietnam and some other countries including Sri Lanka.
The quality of Indian black pepper is very good and hence its export offer price also remains high. If the price increases in Vietnam, then the price will also increase in India and following this, other exporting countries can also try to increase the price of their product.
There is an increasing tendency to hold stocks in top producing states like Karnataka and Kerala, which has led to higher prices there.
It is natural for prices to rise in Disawari markets. The price of pepper in Kochi's terminal market is being reported to be around Rs 700 per kg. Until there is a large export of goods from Vietnam, the price of pepper may remain high and firm.
