Process of distribution of Tuvar Dal and Palm Oil for May-June underway in Tamil Nadu

Chennai. Tamil Nadu Food and Civil Supplies Minister has said that the process of distribution of Tuvar Dal and Palm Oil for May and June among the beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System (PDS) is underway in the state.

An opposition leader had complained that there is a shortage of these two food products in the PDS and it is not being supplied properly.

A press release issued by the Food Minister said that a total of 1.89 crore kg of Tuvar Dal was required for distribution for the month of May,

out of which 1.37 crore kg has been distributed and 40 lakh kg of Tuvar Dal has also been distributed for the month of June. As far as palm oil is concerned,

more than 78.44 lakh tonnes of its packets are required for distribution in the month of June and it has been distributed through PDS shops.

Earlier it was said that due to the implementation of Model Code of Conduct due to Lok Sabha elections, there was a shortage of Tuvar Dal and Palm Oil in ration shops and its distribution was affected.

There was a delay in the tender process for its purchase. Now after the elections are over, both these products are being distributed properly. According to the Food Minister,

due to the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, the state government had to take permission from the Election Commission to issue tenders for the purchase of tur dal and palm oil on April 4.

The Election Commission gave permission for this on April 17 and the tender was issued immediately after that.

The order for palm oil was finalized on May 12, while the final decision on the purchase of tur dal was taken on May 13.

The Food Minister has clarified that there is no shortage of tur dal and palm oil in Tamil Nadu and the process of its distribution will be completely correct from now on.

The state government is committed to continue the supply of these two food products to the poor people at subsidized prices.
