Procurement of Pulses & Oilseeds under PSS/PDPS
★ The Government of India has approved large-scale procurement of pulses and oilseeds in various states under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and the Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS) to provide relief to farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
~~~~~~~
Telangana
★ Under PSS, procurement of 4,430 metric tonnes of moong has been approved in Telangana. In addition, the Centre will also procure 100% urad and 25% soybean in the state.
~~~~~~~
Odisha
★ Under PSS, procurement of 18,470 metric tonnes of tur (pigeon pea) has been approved in Odisha.
~~~~~~~
Maharashtra
★ Under PSS, procurement has been approved for 33,000 metric tonnes of moong, 3.25 lakh tonnes of urad, and 18.5 lakh tonnes of soybean in Maharashtra.
~~~~~~~
Madhya Pradesh
★ In Madhya Pradesh, the Centre has approved 22.21 lakh tonnes of soybean under the PDPS (Bhavantar Scheme).
★ At present, prices of all the above crops are ruling below MSP. Even after the commencement of government procurement, prices have not received adequate support, primarily due to lack of demand-side support.
★ According to I-Grain India, if the impact of government procurement strengthens in the coming period, it may eventually provide support to prices and lead to an upward movement.
