New Delhi. The Union Agriculture Ministry, in its third advance estimate, has projected a record increase in the production of rice, wheat, and maize for the 2024-25 marketing season, along with improved figures for other crops.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, the gross domestic production of food grains is expected to rise by 6.5 percent—from 332.3 million tonnes in the 2023-24 season to an all-time high of 353.96 million tonnes in 2024-25.
This includes 149.07 million tonnes of rice, 117.51 million tonnes of wheat, and 42.28 million tonnes of maize. The third advance estimate also includes data from Kharif, Rabi, and Zaid summer crops.

He emphasized that although overall agricultural production is rising steadily, there is still a need to accelerate the growth in pulses and oilseeds.
A notable increase in sowing area and output was seen during the Kharif season, and a similar trend is expected this year as well.
The average yield rates of paddy, maize, millets, moong, soybean, and sugarcane also improved in the Kharif season of 2024-25.
The ministry estimates a 3.7 percent increase in wheat production—from 113.29 million tonnes in 2023-24 to 117.51 million tonnes in the 2024-25 Rabi season.
Rice production is projected to hit a record 149.07 million tonnes, with contributions of 121.85 million tonnes from the Kharif season, 15.67 million tonnes from Rabi, and 11.55 million tonnes from the Zaid season.
Total food grain production is expected to reach a record 353.96 million tonnes, broken down as follows: 168.07 million tonnes in Kharif, 167.22 million tonnes in Rabi, and 18.68 million tonnes in Zaid.
