Jaipur. The early arrival of the southwest monsoon this year in the western state of Rajasthan helped farmers sow Kharif crops early, but subsequent heavy rainfall and severe flooding in many areas damaged the crops.
The Rajasthan Agriculture Department has now released the first advance estimate of Kharif crop production.
The first advance estimate report projects a total production of 111.96 lakh tonnes of food grains, including 88.47 lakh tonnes of cereals and 23.49 lakh tonnes of pulses, during the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season.
Furthermore, Rajasthan is expected to produce 39.22 lakh tonnes of oilseeds, 17.64 lakh tonnes of guar, 3.32 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, and 19.71 lakh bales (each bale weighing 170 kg) of cotton.
Under cereal crops, the state is projected to produce 10.17 lakh tons of rice, 5.50 lakh tons of sorghum, 50.74 lakh tons of millet, and 22.06 lakh tons of maize.
Similarly, among pulse crops, production is expected to be 16.75 lakh tons of green gram, 4.46 lakh tons of moth, 1.68 lakh tons of black gram, and 52,000 tons of chaula. Tur production will be less than 8,000 tons, while the yield of other pulses will be negligible.
In the oilseed crop category, peanut production in Rajasthan is projected to rise sharply to a peak of 24.66 lakh tons this year due to increased sowing area and favorable weather conditions, which is expected to significantly increase the average yield.
Furthermore, Rajasthan is expected to produce 10.89 lakh tons of soybean, 2.98 lakh tons of castor, and 69,000 tons of sesame.
According to the Agriculture Department, the area under guar cultivation in the state had improved to 26.51 lakh hectares,
but due to crop damage caused by floods and rain, the average yield is estimated at 666 kg per hectare, so the total production is estimated at 17.64 lakh tonnes. It is noteworthy that Rajasthan is the leading producer of millet, mung bean, and guar.
