Risks increased for paddy-rice productivity in many states

Kiev. Paddy-rice production in India is facing many challenges, while Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are likely to face the highest climate risk for its yield rate.
A report released by experts says that states like Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand will face the least risk of climate change.
According to another report, farmers will face problems due to increase in electricity charges in Punjab.
Electric pumps were not being used on a large scale for irrigation of crops and especially paddy because electricity bills were waived for farmers.
But now electricity charges will be collected up to the actual cost of supply. Due to this, there is a possibility of a 55-60 percent decrease in the extraction of water by electric pumps.
It is worth noting that Punjab is the state that contributes the most paddy-rice to the central pool. The water level has decreased considerably due to excessive use of water there.
According to experts, there will be a decline in the yield rate of paddy rice, but its range can be only up to 11 percent.
In some other states including Punjab, huge discounts are being given in electricity bills for farmers, due to which land water resources are being used excessively.
The State Electricity Board has to bear the cost of this. Another report says that the Gross Factor Productivity Rate (TFP) has become almost stable for rice and wheat,
whereas it has decreased in the Ganges-Indus plains during the last five decades i.e. from 1970-71 to 2019-20. India is the second major rice producing country in the world.
