Mumbai: The Regional Office of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) had initiated the sale of rice in Maharashtra—under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS)—through e-auctions and bulk movement starting from the first week of August 2025. The objective of this initiative was to enhance the supply and availability of rice, as well as to stabilize the market by curbing rising prices.

Government-held rice is being offered through weekly e-auctions, while it is also being made available directly from warehouses to certain agencies and bulk buyers. During the e-auctions held on April 29 and 30, 2026, an offer was made to sell 10,000 tonnes of rice; millers, traders, and bulk buyers were deemed eligible to purchase this stock. As per the regulations, each bidder is permitted to purchase a minimum of 1 tonne and a maximum of 7,000 tonnes of rice.

Regarding "Dedicated Movement," an offer was extended for the sale of 50,000 tonnes of general rice and 40,000 tonnes of non-FRK (Fortified Rice Kernels) custom-milled rice. This rice variety contains a broken grain percentage of 10 percent. Of this total, an offer for 10,000 tonnes was made from Punjab, while the remaining 30,000 tonnes were offered from Andhra Pradesh. Bidders participating in this category are required to place a bid for a minimum quantity of 2,650 tonnes.
