Sharp rise in India’s Kabuli chickpea exports (in lakh tonnes)
★ During the current financial year 2025–26, India’s Kabuli chickpea exports have recorded a strong increase during April–October. ★ Exports in this period rose to about 1.09 lakh tonnes, compared with around 0.68 lakh tonnes in the same period last year.
★ In the previous financial year 2024–25, total Kabuli chickpea exports were about 1.31 lakh tonnes, a level that could be reached as early as November this year. For 2025–26, total exports are expected to cross a record 1.50 lakh tonnes.
★ In Canada, Kabuli chickpea production has been good this year, but quality is considered inferior compared to Indian produce.
★ Overall, the year-on-year rise in Kabuli chickpea exports indicates strong international demand and comfortable domestic availability.
★ With export prospects remaining positive in the coming months, prices are expected to strengthen going forward.
