Kochi. The festival season is going to start in India from next month which may continue till more or less the first week of November.
During this period, the demand and consumption of small cardamom often increases. The same will happen this time too.
Due to this, there are chances of some more improvement in the prices, whereas the prices are already running at a very high level. Kerala produces the most small cardamom, but this year the weather conditions were not very favorable there, so there is a possibility of a decline in production and delay in plucking and preparation.
The price of cardamom is likely to remain strong in the producing centers till the arrival of new goods starts in large numbers. Usually, the arrival of new goods starts from the last week of June to the first week of July and the new auction season is considered to start from August.
Although now good monsoon rains have started in Kerala, but it seems difficult to compensate for the earlier loss to the crop.
The cardamom crop in Guatemala is said to be very weak and the price has also gone up. This may help India to face its competition in the Gulf countries.
In an auction held yesterday, a little more than 35 tonnes of cardamom arrived and due to strong buying by local dealers,
Disawari traders and exporters, its average price increased to above Rs 2322 per kg, which was recorded at Rs 2124 per kg in the last auction. Further price fluctuations will depend on its demand.
