New Delhi: During the first three months of the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season, the average price of soybeans in domestic markets remained significantly below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), while groundnut prices fluctuated.
According to government data, the MSP for soybeans for the current marketing season was fixed at Rs 5328 per quintal, while the average weighted price at the all-India level during the October-December 2025 quarter was 21 percent lower, at Rs 4197 per quintal. Similarly, the average weighted price of groundnuts was Rs 5583 per quintal, which was 23 percent below the MSP.
During the quarter under review, the lowest average weighted price for soybeans was observed in Maharashtra at Rs 4186 per quintal.
Although the average price of groundnuts was higher during October-December 2025 compared to October-December 2024, it fell to Rs 4821 per quintal in Haryana, which was significantly lower than in other producing states. A decline in the average price of groundnuts was also recorded in the markets of Uttar Pradesh.
Later, when robust procurement of soybeans at the Minimum Support Price began from farmers in Maharashtra and Rajasthan, the wholesale market prices of this important oilseed started to rise. This also impacted Madhya Pradesh, where the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana (price difference payment scheme) is in effect.
Soybean prices improved considerably there as well. In Gujarat, due to strong government procurement of groundnuts and robust domestic and export demand, groundnut prices have now improved significantly. In Rajkot, it is trading above the MSP.
