Sugar Production Rising in the Three Leading Producing States

New Delhi. Reports from the two leading organizations of the domestic sugar industry, the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) and the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF),

clearly indicate that sugar production is showing a significant increase in the country's three leading sugarcane-producing states – Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka – during the current marketing season compared to last year.

The highest increase is being observed in Maharashtra. The situation is normal in Gujarat, while production is declining in other states.

According to ISMA's latest report, sugar production across the country increased to 78.25 lakh tonnes during the two and a half months from October 1 to December 15, 2025, in the current marketing season,

which is about 17 lakh tonnes or 28 percent more than the 61.28 lakh tonnes produced during the same period last year. During the period under review, sugar production in Maharashtra jumped from 16.78 lakh tonnes to 31.79 lakh tonnes,

in Uttar Pradesh it improved from 23.04 lakh tonnes to 24.56 lakh tonnes, and in Karnataka it increased from 13.85 lakh tonnes to 15.80 lakh tonnes. Sugar production in Gujarat improved from 1.80 lakh tonnes to 1.82 lakh tonnes, but in Tamil Nadu it fell from 75,000 tonnes to 50,000 tonnes,

and in other states of the country, it declined from 5.06 lakh tonnes to 3.78 lakh tonnes. These states include Bihar,

Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan, among others. By December 15, 2025, 187 sugar mills in Maharashtra, 118 in Uttar Pradesh, and 74 in Karnataka were operational.
