Addis Ababa. The government of Tanzania, a country located in the African continent, has decided to launch a new strategic effort to increase foreign exchange reserves under which the country's pulses export will be increased and special attention will be given to the purchase of gold.
Recent data shows that last year pulses were the second major agricultural product to earn foreign exchange in Tanzania after tobacco.
According to a report of the International Trade Center of the United Nations, Tanzania exports grains, tea, coffee, sesame and cotton as well as many horticultural products, but the export income of pulses is more than this. Last year,
Tanzania earned US $ 274.6 million from the export of pulses alone. According to the coordinator of the Tanzania Pulses Network, the export of pulses from the country has increased significantly in recent years.
This increased the earnings of valuable foreign exchange and helped in the development of the national economy. On the export front, pulses have overtaken many traditional commercial crops. Farmers are also paying more attention to its cultivation.
In the year 2022, pulses worth $ 183.8 million were exported from Tanzania, which was much less than the total export of $ 269 million in the year 2021, but its performance was good compared to the previous years.
According to the data received, Tanzania earned $ 193 million in the year 2020 and $ 119 million in 2019 from the export of pulses.
The convener says that pulses are not only a current crop for Tanzania but also an important product for the future, which will continue to contribute better in making the economy stable and strong.
Last year, about 4.48 lakh tonnes of pulses were exported from Tanzania, which was slightly less than the total shipment of 4.64 lakh tonnes in the year 2021. India also imports gram from Tanzania. Dry beans, gram, tuvar, mung and cowpea are produced there.
