The area under maize, soybean and sugarcane reached above the normal average area

New Delhi. With the help of good rains of the southwest monsoon, the production area of ​​​​most Kharif crops has gone ahead of last year, which includes paddy, tur (tuvar), moong, maize, soybean, groundnut and sugarcane etc.

On the other hand, a decline is being seen in the sowing area of ​​​​crops like urad, millet, sesame, castor and cotton. The area of ​​​​soyabean, maize and sugarcane has also gone beyond the five-year average area.

The normal average area of ​​​​kharif crops for the current year has been estimated at 1095.84 lakh hectares,

out of which sowing of crops had been completed in 904.60 lakh hectares or 82.5 percent by August 2, 2024. This sowing area was 3 percent more than the total area of ​​​​879.22 lakh hectares of the same period last year.

Data from the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that apart from soybean, maize and sugarcane, the production area of ​​​​many other crops has also gone beyond 90 percent of the normal average area.

Since the production of various crops is increasing day by day, the production area of ​​​​many other crops has also gone beyond 90 percent of the normal average area. Sowing is still going on, so it is expected that in the coming weeks its area will also go beyond the normal average area.

As far as paddy is concerned, till August 2, its production area increased to 276.91 lakh hectares, which was 5.3 percent more than the area of ​​263.01 lakh hectares in the same period last year.

In the previous week, the area had lagged behind. The normal average area of ​​Kharif paddy has been fixed at 401.55 lakh hectares this time, in which about 70 percent of it was cultivated till August 2.

The production area of ​​maize reached 82.25 lakh hectares, which was about 10 percent more than last year's sowing area of ​​74.56 lakh hectares and 7 percent more than the normal average area.

Similarly, the production area of ​​soybean has crossed the normal average area of ​​123 lakh hectares and reached 123.77 lakh hectares this time, which is more than last year's area of ​​120.51 lakh hectares.
