The current policy of export of rice to European countries will continue for the next six months

New Delhi. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), a subordinate body of the Union Ministry of Commerce, has issued a notification on July 5, 2024, extending the time limit of the current policy for export of Basmati and non-Basmati rice to European countries for the next six months. This decision has come into effect with immediate effect.
Under the current policy, non-Basmati rice falling under HS codes 1006 2000, 1006 30, 1006 3010, 1006 3090 and 1006 4000 will be allowed to be exported to the member countries of the European Union and Britain, Iceland, Liechtenstein,
Norway and Switzerland only if an inspection certificate has been issued for it by the Export Inspection Council (EIC) or Export Inspection Agency (EIA). But it will not be mandatory to obtain inspection certificate from these institutions for exporting rice to other countries of Europe. The same has been said in the new notification.
Similarly, it is necessary to obtain inspection certificate from EIC / EIA for export of Basmati rice (dehusk brown, semi milled and milled - both in raw and sela form) falling under HS code 1006 3000 to the member countries of the European Union and Britain, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, but this certificate is not mandatory for export of Basmati rice to other countries of Europe.
Actually this export policy has been in force for a long time and a new notification is issued to extend its period for every six months. The last notification was issued on 12 December 2023. The number of non-Basmati rice is 55 and that of Basmati rice is 57.
