New Delhi. The Union Minister of State for Agriculture says that the Central Government is making every possible effort to increase the production of pulses and oilseeds in the country.
In the last decade i.e. from the year 2014-15 to 2023-24, a huge increase of 43 percent in the production of pulses and 44 percent in the production of oilseeds was recorded at the national level.
National Food Security Mission has been implemented to increase the production of both these categories of crops. Under this, necessary incentives are being provided to the farmers through the states / union territories for the promotion of pulses production.
Special emphasis is being laid on increasing the average yield rate per unit of pulses and at the same time efforts are being made to increase its sowing area under the crop diversification program. Improved seeds are being provided to the farmers.
Adequate efforts are also being made to increase the yield of oilseed crops, due to which its yield has increased well in recent years.
But it is also a fact that despite the increase in domestic production of pulses and oilseeds due to various government efforts and hard work of farmers, import of edible oils and pulses in large quantities is still going on in the country and the government itself has made the import of yellow peas completely duty free and the import duty on edible oils has also been reduced to the minimum level.
There are indications of a good increase in the sowing area of pulses and oilseeds crops in the current Kharif season, due to which its production is expected to increase.
But for this, it is necessary that the weather and rainfall remain favorable for the next few weeks.
