Tremendous increase in sowing of major Kharif crops in Maharashtra

Pune. Tremendous increase in sowing of soybean, tur, maize and cotton is being seen in the western state of the country- Maharashtra during the current Kharif season, while it is among the leading producers of these crops.
During the current year, the total production area of Kharif crops in Maharashtra till July 10 has increased to 116.38 lakh hectares, which is much higher than the sowing area of 81.94 lakh hectares during the same period last year.
According to the report of the State Agriculture Department, this time Marathwada division has gone far ahead in sowing of Kharif crops.
The normal average area of Kharif crops for the current year in Maharashtra has been estimated at 142 lakh hectares, while the actual area is expected to reach above this. Kharif crops have been sown in the highest area in Pune division,
while Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar is at second place and Latur division is at third place. In Konkan region, the area has increased by 23.42 percent to 97 thousand hectares and in Masik division it has jumped by 80.30 percent to 16.58 lakh hectares.
Compared to the normal average area, this time the production area of Kharif crops has increased by 101.80 percent to 10.84 lakh hectares in Pune division, by 74.05 percent to 5.39 lakh hectares in Kolhapur division,
by 93.05 percent to 19.45 lakh hectares in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar division, by 92.04 percent to 25.47 lakh hectares in Latur division,
by 87.32 percent to 27.58 lakh hectares in Amravati division and the area of Kharif crops has increased by 52.76 percent to 10.10 lakh hectares in Nagpur division. Sowing of maize, cotton,
soybean, other oilseeds and pulses crops is increasing rapidly. The area under maize has increased by 101 percent to 8.96 lakh hectare,
pigeon pea sowing area has jumped by 81 percent to 10.54 lakh hectare, black gram area has increased by 82 percent to 3.05 lakh hectare,
soybean production area has jumped by 108 percent to 44.48 lakh hectare and cotton area has increased by 90 percent to 37.68 lakh hectare.
