Viterra Company successful in purchasing more than 11 lakh tonnes of agricultural products in Australia

Viterra, a prominent agricultural company, has successfully purchased more than 1.1 million tonnes (11 lakh tonnes) of grains, oilseeds, and pulses from South Australia and Western Victoria by November 17, 2024. This significant achievement is attributed to the vigorous harvesting of winter crops,
with high quantities of wheat, barley, and canola making up the bulk of the harvest. However, the arrival of lentils has been lower than expected.
The company observed a sharp increase in crop deliveries, with about 120,000 tonnes of agricultural products being supplied in a single day last week.
This indicates favorable harvesting conditions, particularly in regions like the Eyre Peninsula, where harvesting is progressing rapidly.
A senior Viterra official noted that the pace of crop arrivals has accelerated, especially in the western regions, where more than 50% of the total purchases have been recorded.
The major producer of faba beans, Yeelanna, has also seen an increase in crop arrivals. In contrast, the central region has faced some harvesting delays due to adverse weather conditions, although some progress has been made.
While wheat and barley harvesting continues at a brisk pace, lentil harvesting is slower, as farmers are prioritizing wheat and barley preparations.
Canola harvesting, however, has started swiftly. Although crop arrivals are also beginning in the eastern regions,
the main commodities being harvested remain wheat and barley. There are concerns that lentil production in Australia may decline this year due to these conditions.
