Chickpea prices decline due to selling pressure and weak demand
New Delhi: Chickpea prices showed a downward trend during the current week due to increased profit-taking at higher levels and weak buying sentiment. Given the high prices prevailing for some time, stockists and traders prioritized selling, which increased pressure on the market. Meanwhile, the arrival of new chickpeas has begun in the major producing markets of Karnataka and Maharashtra. Initially, arrivals were limited, but they are gradually increasing. As harvesting accelerates, the supply of the new crop in the markets is expected to increase, which is directly impacting prices. Currently, the chickpea crop condition is generally quite good. Favorable weather and expectations of better production have weakened market sentiment. Continuous selling by stockists and importers, anticipating a better yield, is creating supply pressure in the market. Due to weak buying by pulse millers, Delhi chickpea prices declined by Rs. 75-100 per quintal this week, bringing the prices at the end of the week to Rs. 5750-5775 per quintal for Madhya Pradesh origin and Rs. 5800-5825 per quintal for Rajasthan origin.
