Coriander prices rise due to fears of reduced sowing

New Delhi. Coriander prices are currently rising. Over the past week, prices have risen by ₹200-300 per quintal. Market sentiment remains bullish. Sources say that coriander sowing has begun at growing centers. However, due to a lack of significant price increases during the current season, farmers are considering reducing coriander sowing this year as well. It is estimated that coriander sowing this year is likely to be 10-15 percent lower than last year. It is noteworthy that last year, the area under coriander cultivation in the country was 3.37 lakh hectares, while for the year 2024, sowing was done on 3.64 lakh hectares.
During the current week, coriander prices rose in the spot and futures markets due to weak arrivals in the markets of producing centers. The November coriander price in the futures market opened at ₹8,002 and closed at ₹8,266. The December coriander price opened at ₹8,114 and closed at ₹8,352. Due to strong futures news and weak arrivals, spot coriander prices also rose by ₹200-₹300 per quintal in the markets of major producing states Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. In its October 4 issue, I Grain India had also informed its readers that coriander prices would rise by ₹5-₹8 per kg during the months of October-November. Coriander prices are expected to remain firm during the month of November as well.
Arrivals
Coriander arrivals have declined to 2,500 bags in Gondal Mandi, a major producing state in Gujarat, and 500 bags in Rajkot. Arrivals in Ramganj Mandi, Rajasthan, are 3,000 bags, while arrivals in Baran and Kota are down to 500/600 bags. Arrivals in Guna Mandi, Madhya Pradesh, are 2,000/2,500 bags, and in Kumbhraj, 1,000/1,200 bags. Sources say that arrivals may further decline in the coming days as most of the producers' produce has arrived in the markets.
Slow or Rise
Experts say that coriander prices are unlikely to decline in the near future, as the market sentiment is bullish due to the fear of reduced sowing at producing centers. Furthermore, arrivals in the markets are expected to decrease in the coming days, while customer demand is expected to increase. Due to this, trade estimates are still predicting a rise of ₹3/5 per kg in coriander prices. Currently, the price of Badami Badami coriander is being quoted at ₹69/₹72 and that of Eagle at ₹72/₹75 in the markets of producing centers.
Availability
There are reports of lower availability of coriander compared to consumption during the current season. Sources say that our annual coriander consumption, combined with consumption and exports, is approximately 36 crore bags. However, due to coriander production of 1 crore bags during the current season, and outstanding stocks of 35/40 lakh bags, the total availability is 1.35/1.40 crore bags. Due to this, coriander stocks will be significantly low during the new crop next year. Trade sources believe that the current stock of coriander at producing centers is expected to be 40/45 lakh bags.
Export
Coriander exports during the current season have been slightly higher than last year. According to the information received, the export of coriander in April-July-2025 was 23447 tonnes whereas in the same period last year the export was 21075 tonnes. There was improvement in exports during the month of August also. The export of coriander in August 2025 was 4466 tonnes whereas in August 2024 the export was 4120 tonnes. During the year 2024-25 (April-March) the total export of coriander was 60324 tonnes. In the year 2023-24 the record export of coriander was 108624 tonnes.
