Coriander Prices Rise Due to Crop Damage Reports
New Delhi: Coriander prices remained firm during the current week. Both the futures and spot markets witnessed an upward trend. Notably, there are reports of crop damage due to rains in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, but the crop situation in Gujarat is good. The arrival of new stock in Gujarat's markets has started increasing gradually. New coriander arrivals in the markets of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are expected to begin in February. According to information from production centers, there has been a decrease in coriander sowing in all producing states this year, and there are concerns about further crop damage due to the recent rains. Therefore, a decline in prices is not expected at present, but a fall in prices is possible in February-March when the pressure of new arrivals increases in the markets, but the decline will not be significant. This is because the continuously decreasing stock and the lower new crop for the second consecutive year will affect the supply, which will prevent prices from falling significantly. It is noteworthy that in 2024, coriander was sown on 3.64 lakh hectares in the country, which decreased to 3.37 lakh hectares in 2025. Reports indicate a decrease in the sowing area during the current season.
Production Estimates
Due to weak sowing, the production of coriander in the country during the current season is likely to be around 90 lakh bags, while in 2025, the production was estimated at one crore bags. In 2023, production reached 1.60 crore bags, and in 2024, it was estimated at 1.20 crore bags.
Low Stock
Due to continuously declining production, the stock of coriander is also continuously decreasing. According to an estimate, the stock of coriander in the producing states at the time of the new crop in 2024 was estimated at 40/45 lakh bags, which decreased to 32/35 lakh bags in 2025. Trade estimates suggest that stocks during the current season will be around 20-22 lakh bags.
Consumption and Availability
According to informed sources, the total availability of coriander will be less than the consumption during 2026. It is noteworthy that the annual consumption of coriander, including domestic consumption and exports, is approximately 1.40-1.50 crore bags, but during the current season, the total availability, including new production and carryover stocks, will be 1.10-1.15 crore bags.
No further decline expected
Traders believe that a significant increase in coriander prices can be expected during 2026. Currently, the price of Eagle variety coriander at production centers is quoted at Rs. 96-100 per kg and Badami variety at Rs. 92-95 per kg. Prices may fall by Rs. 10-12 per kg due to the pressure of new arrivals in the markets, but a further decline is unlikely.
Exports
During the first eight months of the current financial year 2025-26, coriander exports registered a 12 percent increase and revenue increased by 14 percent. According to data released by the Spices Board, 42,844 tonnes of coriander were exported during April-November 2025, and the revenue earned from exports was Rs. 457.86 crore. In comparison, exports during April-November 2024 were 38,314 tonnes, and the revenue earned was Rs. 402.14 crore. The total export of coriander during 2024-25 was 60,324 tonnes, while a record export of 108,624 tonnes was recorded in 2023-24.
