Lentil prices rise due to increased buying

Mumbai. Lentil prices rose during the current week as a result of reduced selling at lower prices last week and improved buying. According to the latest data from the government agency ABARES, the area under pulses in Australia has reached a new high this year, surpassing previous records. Pulse production in the winter crop cycle is proving profitable for farmers. Lentil cultivation is steadily increasing in the southern states. Total lentil production in Australia is projected to reach approximately 1.7 million tons in the 2025-26 season, based on an average yield of 1.50 tons per hectare. As of October 28, 2025, there were sufficient stocks of imported lentils at the major ports of Kandla, Mundra, and Hazira in the western state of Gujarat. 38,190 tonnes of lentil stock was available at Kandla port, 11,936 tonnes at Mundra port and 5,781 tonnes at Hazira port.
Due to weakening of selling by importers and improvement in demand, the prices of imported lentils increased by Rs 50/100 per quintal during the current week and at the end of the week the prices became Mundra Rs 5850/5900, Hazira Rs 5900/5950 and container Canada Rs 6150 and Australia Rs 6200 per quintal. Similarly, Kolkata lentil prices also improved by Rs 50 per quintal this week and the prices became Australia Rs 6300 per quintal at the end of the week.
Delhi
Due to increased demand supported by the rise in port prices, during the current week, the price of large lentils in Delhi saw a rise of Rs 125 and small lentils by Rs 100 per quintal and at the weekend the prices of small quota reached Rs 8250/8300, Bundi Rs 8550/8600, Uttar Pradesh Rs 8750/8800 and Desi big Rs 6800/6825 per quintal. Due to better buying, the prices of lentils in Madhya Pradesh increased by Rs 100/150 per quintal this week and at the weekend the prices were Ashoknagar Rs 6400/6450, Bina Rs 6200/6600, Ganjbasoda Rs 6000/6600, Sagar Rs 5800/6150, Damoh Rs 6200/6600, Indore Rs 6000, Kareli Rs 6190/6510 and Katni Rs 6800 per quintal.
Uttar Pradesh
Due to weak availability and increased demand, small lentil prices in Uttar Pradesh rose by ₹150/₹1300 and large lentil prices by ₹150 per quintal during the current week. With this increase, prices reached ₹9100 in Bareilly, ₹9100 in thick, ₹6800 in Lalitpur, ₹5800/₹6100 in thick, ₹7800/₹8000 in Orai, and ₹5700/₹6100 per quintal in Orai.
Other
Due to the support of the all-round rally and increased buying, Bihar lentil prices saw a rise of ₹100 per quintal this week, reaching ₹7400 in Barh, ₹7300 in Khusrupur, and ₹7400 in Mokama. Similarly, Raipur lentil prices also rose by ₹100 per quintal this week, reaching ₹6400 per quintal at the weekend.
Masoor Dal
Supported by the rise in tur prices and improved demand, masoor dal prices have increased by Rs 100 per quintal during the current week and at the weekend the prices were Rs 7500 in Indore, Rs 8300/8600 in Barh, Rs 8200/8500 in Khusrupur, Rs 8300/8600 in Mokama, Rs 9000/10000 in Chandausi and Rs 7750 in Hyderabad per quintal.
