Basmati arrivals increased in Punjab-Haryana- normal fluctuations in prices
New Delhi. There is a good supply of Basmati and general category paddy in the markets of Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh and its prices are currently witnessing normal fluctuations as per the demand of rice millers / processors and exporters.
Delhi
During the week of October 17 to 23, an average of 60 thousand bags of paddy arrived daily in Delhi's Narela Mandi, while its quantity was recorded at 50 thousand bags in Amritsar, Punjab. The average daily arrival of paddy was around 4 thousand bags (each sack is of 100 kg) in Najafgarh, Delhi, 25-30 thousand bags in Tarn Taran, Punjab, 25 thousand bags in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, 40 thousand bags in Mainpuri, 50 thousand bags in Jahangirabad, 1.00-1.20 lakh bags in Shahjahanpur, 60-80 thousand bags in Aligarh and 70 thousand bags in Khair. In Haryana too, 70-80 thousand bags arrived in Tarawadi Mandi, 25 thousand bags in Gohana, 6 to 10 thousand bags in Hansi, 40-50 thousand bags in Dabra, Madhya Pradesh, 40-60 thousand bags in Bundi, Rajasthan and 25-30 thousand bags in Kota. As far as prices are concerned, a fluctuation of 50 to 100 rupees per quintal was recorded in it as compared to the previous week. The price of 1718 paddy in Tarawadi was Rs 200 lower. While the price of 1509 in Gohana Mandi fell by Rs 451 to Rs 2800 per quintal. Along with Basmati, there is also a good arrival of general category paddy which is being purchased by government agencies at the minimum support price.
Rice
The price of rice was seen to rise by Rs 100-200 per quintal in the week under review. It is known that the Central Government has exempted Sela rice from export duty by abolishing the minimum export price (MAP) of $ 950 and $ 490 per tonne imposed on Basmati rice and general category white rice respectively. This has increased the enthusiasm and courage of the exporters and a huge increase is expected in the export of rice from the country. The price of rice of different varieties and categories was seen strong in Raichur, Karnataka. The price of rice may increase further in the coming time.
