Limited improvement in the price of paddy-rice amid normal business
Weekly Review – Paddy and Rice (28 December to 4 January)
There was a limited improvement in paddy and rice prices during the week, as the arrival of Basmati and good-quality non-Basmati rice remained low in key mandis of major producing states. At the same time, demand from millers and exporters was subdued. Despite these conditions, the prices rose by Rs 100-150 per quintal in some markets. Government procurement of general category rice continues in several states, contributing to the market dynamics.
Delhi
In Delhi's Narela Mandi, the price of 1509 hand rice saw a rise of Rs 150, reaching Rs 3000 per quintal. However, other varieties experienced negligible price changes due to limited business activity. The arrival of rice in this mandi decreased significantly. Similarly, prices remained largely stable in Najafgarh Mandi. In Chhattisgarh's Bhatpara Mandi, HMT rice prices dropped by Rs 100, while Shri Ram Bhog increased by Rs 100. In Rajim Mandi, prices rose by Rs 20-25.
Punjab (Amritsar)
Prices in Amritsar, Punjab, remained steady, with an average of 1000 bags of paddy arriving daily. However, there was no significant trading activity in Fazilka and Tarn Taran. In Uttar Pradesh's Etah and Mainpuri Mandis, paddy prices increased by Rs 100-150 per quintal for some categories. Meanwhile, in Shahjahanpur, prices also rose, but in Jahangirabad, the price of Taj paddy fell by Rs 100, and Sugandha prices dropped by Rs 200. Limited paddy arrivals were noted in these markets.
Rajasthan (Kota)
In Kota, Rajasthan, the price of 1718 paddy rose by Rs 250, reaching Rs 3000-3250 per quintal.
Rice Market
The rice market saw limited trading, with prices fluctuating between Rs 100 and Rs 200 per quintal. In Bhatpara, Shri Ram rice prices softened by Rs 100, while Vishnu Bhog prices rose by Rs 100. In Amritsar, the price of 1121 Sela and 1509 Sela decreased by Rs 100 each, while the price of 1121 steam rice increased by Rs 150, reaching Rs 6900-6950 per quintal. In Delhi's Naya Bazar, weak demand caused rice prices to fall by Rs 100-600 per quintal. Prices of 1509 steam rice and 1718 Sela rice saw a drop of Rs 600 each, while 1401 Sela rice softened by Rs 400 per quintal.
Overall, while there were minor improvements in certain markets, the paddy and rice markets remained relatively stable, with fluctuating prices and limited trading activity.
