Slight improvement in the price of paddy and rice amid low arrival and limited business
New Delhi. Limited arrival of paddy is being received in most of the provinces of the country and especially in the northern states because the off-season of its supply has started. The cultivation of Kharif paddy has started and its area will gradually increase in the coming time. Basmati paddy is arriving in some mandis while the business has stopped in the coming mandis.
Delhi
During the week of 4 to 10 July, the price of 1509 hand paddy in Delhi's Narela Mandi increased by Rs 161 to Rs 3461 per quintal and the price of 1847 increased by Rs 96 to Rs 3346 per quintal. The price of some other varieties also recorded an improvement of Rs 30 to Rs 75. Daily arrival of 3 to 7 thousand sacks of paddy was received in the mandi and its business was fine.
Chhattisgarh
500 bags of paddy arrived in Bhatapada Mandi of Chhattisgarh every day but its price remained stable at the previous level. There was no arrival of paddy in Amritsar, Najafgarh, Dankaur, Etah and Mainpuri. But in Jahangirabad, 5-5 thousand bags of paddy arrived in the last two days of the week and some ups and downs were seen in the prices.
Rajasthan / Uttar Pradesh
In Rajim Mandi, the price of paddy remained almost stable amidst limited arrival but in Bundi Mandi of Rajasthan, the price of 1509, Sugandha and 1718 category paddy increased by Rs 100 each. On the other hand, in Shahjahanpur of Uttar Pradesh, the price of some varieties fell by Rs 100. In Kota, the price of Sugandha paddy fell by Rs 100 and came to Rs 2500/2650 per quintal.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, the Central Government has decided to start its sale under the Open Market Sale Scheme with a minimum reserve price of Rs 2800 per quintal, but it is doubtful whether it will have any significant impact on the market price. In Raipur, Karnataka, the price of some varieties of rice fluctuated by Rs 100 per quintal, while in Amritsar, Punjab, it fluctuated by up to Rs 200 per quintal.
Uttarakhand
There was no change in the price of rice in the Nagar Mandi of Uttarakhand and the business was also limited. But in Bundi, the price of rice increased by Rs 100 to Rs 300 per quintal.
Haryana
In Haryana's benchmark Karnal Mandi, the price of most rice remained at the previous level, but the price of PR 14 Sela increased by Rs 100 and the price of Sharbati Sela increased by Rs 200 per quintal, while the price of Sugandha Sela rice weakened by Rs 100.
Delhi
In Delhi's Naya Bazar market, the price of different varieties of rice fluctuated by Rs 100-200 per quintal. Under this, the price of 1121 steam, 1509 steam, 1401 Sela and Sharbati steam fell by Rs 100-100 per quintal and the price of 1121 Sela and Sugandha Sela fell by Rs 200-200 per quintal, while the price of Sugandha steam rice improved by Rs 100 per quintal.
Export
Despite strong demand from exporters, the government has not yet taken any decision on the proposal to reduce the minimum export price of Basmati rice from 950 to 800-850 dollars per ton. Millers and exporters are disappointed by this.
