Rice Prices Rise Amidst Strong Buying; Paddy Prices Remain Stable

New Delhi: The off-season for the supply of Kharif-season paddy is currently underway, while the harvesting and preparation of the Rabi-season crop have yet to gain full momentum. Consequently, the arrival of paddy (Basmati) in the *mandis* (wholesale markets) remains limited, resulting in subdued trading activity.
Delhi
During the week spanning March 28 to April 3, the daily arrival of paddy at Delhi's Narela *mandi* ranged between 2,000 and 8,000 bags. Prices for the 1121, 1509 (Hand-milled), and 1718 varieties witnessed an increase of ₹265, ₹132, and ₹80 per quintal, respectively; however, most other *mandis* across the country remained calm and stable.
Rajasthan
In Rajasthan, the *mandis* of Kota and Bundi continue to witness a healthy inflow of paddy. During the week under review, robust buying and selling activity in these markets led to a price surge of ₹100–₹200 per quintal. The Bundi *mandi* recorded a daily supply of 10,000–15,000 bags of paddy, while the Kota *mandi* received 5,000–7,000 bags daily. In Uttar Pradesh, the markets of Aligarh and Shahjahanpur witnessed only a marginal inflow of paddy.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, several *mandis* observed keen interest in procurement from out-of-town traders (*Disawari*) and exporters, which subsequently drove up prices.
Punjab / Amritsar
In Amritsar, Punjab, the prices of various rice varieties rose by ₹100–₹200 per quintal. Notably, the price of *Parmal Steam* rice surged by ₹300, reaching a range of ₹6,500–₹6,550 per quintal.
Rajasthan
Rajasthan's Bundi *mandi* also witnessed an increase of ₹100–₹200 per quintal in rice prices. A similar trend was observed in Delhi's *Naya Bazar*, where the prices of most rice varieties and grades moved upward. The price of 1885 Steam rice rose by ₹200 to reach ₹8,600 per quintal.
