Pea Prices Improve, Limited Availability Strengthens Market

Kanpur: Pea prices improved during the current week due to weaker selling at lower prices and increased buying. Limited availability of imported peas at the port restricted selling by importers, thus supporting the market. According to the latest data from the Agriculture Department, pea sowing in the current Rabi season has decreased to 7.18 lakh hectares, compared to 7.85 lakh hectares last year. This represents a decrease of 0.67 lakh hectares in the sown area. According to traders, given the limited supply and reduced sowing, pea prices are likely to remain firm in the coming period.
During the current week, pea prices in Western Canadian markets remained mostly stable. Prices for Number 2 grade yellow peas remained stable between $7.00–$7.50 per bushel, while glyphosate-free yellow peas were priced at around $7.50 per bushel. Demand for regular yellow peas remains weak. Green pea prices remained at approximately $10 per bushel. Limited buying was observed for better quality green peas. Maple pea prices ranged between $10–$11 per bushel. Despite the 30 percent duty imposed on yellow pea imports into India from November 1, 2025, shipments with bills of lading dated up to October 31 continue to arrive.
Due to weaker selling by importers and increased buying, imported pea prices improved by Rs. 25/50 per quintal during the current week, and with this improvement, prices at the end of the week were Mumbai Canada Rs. 3700, Russia Rs. 3600, and Mundra Canada Rs. 3575 and Russia Rs. 3500 per quintal. Due to increased buying, Kanpur pea prices rose by Rs. 50 per quintal this week, reaching Rs. 3875/3900 per quintal by the weekend.  Continued buying also led to a Rs. 50 per quintal increase in Lalitpur pea prices, bringing them to Rs. 3400/3600 per quintal by the end of the week. Similarly, Mahoba pea prices increased by Rs. 100 per quintal this week, reaching Rs. 3500/3800 per quintal by the weekend. Maudanipur pea prices also registered an increase of Rs. 100 per quintal, bringing the prices to Rs. 3400/3500 per quintal by the end of the week.
