Tur market witnesses bullish trend, supported by weak arrivals

Mumbai: Tur prices witnessed a strong surge during the current week, mainly due to sustained strong demand in the market. Continuous buying by dal millers and wholesale consumers strengthened tur prices, and prices traded at higher levels in most major markets. Due to major festivals like Pongal and Makar Sankranti, the arrival of tur in producing markets was relatively weak this week. Limited sales by farmers and low arrivals in the markets put pressure on the supply side, leading to a decrease in market availability. Given the weak arrivals, demand from stockists and dal millers remained strong. Uncertainty regarding future supply led traders to actively buy, further supporting the rising prices of tur. According to market sources, the strong trend in tur prices is likely to continue until there is a significant improvement in arrivals in the markets. However, if arrivals increase in the coming days, some stability or limited fluctuations in prices may be observed.
Due to weak selling by importers and continued strong demand, Mumbai African tur prices increased by Rs. 100/150 per quintal this week, and with this increase, the prices at the end of the week were: Mozambique White 5900/5950 rupees, Gajri 5800/5850 rupees, Matwara 5700/5750 rupees, Malawi 5250/5300 rupees, and Sudan 7100/7150 rupees per quintal.
