Wheat market fluctuates based on demand and supply
New Delhi. The wheat supply season is underway, and the sale of government stocks hasn't begun, yet the market hasn't seen any significant fluctuations. Based on demand and supply, wheat prices rose by up to ₹100 per quintal in some areas and fell by ₹25-50 per quintal in others during the week of October 25-31.
Delhi/MP
Wheat prices remained stable at ₹2800/₹2830 per quintal in Delhi, and the price level remained unchanged at ₹2500/₹3200 per quintal in Indore. However, prices rose by ₹100 per quintal in Rajkot, Gujarat, and ₹100 in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. Prices improved by ₹50 in Khandwa. Rajasthan witnessed a mixed trend. Wheat prices improved by ₹50 in the Kota market to ₹2450/₹2700 per quintal, but fell by ₹75 in Bundi to ₹2475/₹2500 per quintal.
Uttar Pradesh
Wheat prices fell by ₹5 to ₹20 per quintal in Uttar Pradesh markets, and the Jalna market in Maharashtra also fell by ₹50. Wheat prices in most markets have fallen below the minimum support price (MSP), which is surprising for this stage of the season. Markets are typically quite high at this time.
MSP
The central government has increased the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat by ₹160 from ₹2425 per quintal for the 2024-25 season to ₹2585 per quintal for the 2025-26 season, while the Madhya Pradesh government has announced an additional subsidy of ₹115 per quintal above this level.
Sowing
Wheat sowing has begun and is expected to pick up pace. The government has sufficient wheat stocks. Wheat prices typically remain strong during the period from November to March. Stock limits are in place on wheat.
