Western Australia estimates 177.50 lakh ton grain production

Perth. In the monthly report of the Grain Industry Association of Western Australia (GIWA), the total production of winter crops at the provincial level during the current year has been estimated to reach 177.50 lakh ton. The harvesting of crops has already begun there.

In September, the association had predicted a total production of 168.60 lakh ton which has now been increased to between 170-180 lakh ton.

The interesting fact is that this year the rainfall in Western Australia province was very less and the only exception to this was the Geraldton region where good rainfall was recorded.

According to the report, the picture of production will become clear only when the harvesting of crops begins in the Geraldton port zone because a lot of difference is being seen in the condition of crops in its eastern and western parts and hence it is quite difficult to estimate the yield accurately at the moment.

This time the crop development season of Western Australia province was a bit short and hence the harvesting is also likely to end early. Although the rains in early October benefited late sown crops, mainly wheat and canola, but for the early or intermediate sown crops, this rain came too late.

The report says that the average yield rate of crops in most areas will not reach the expected level, but at some places the condition is seen to be quite good.

In between the areas of poor crop condition, there are also such areas where the crop condition remains excellent or encouraging. In some areas, the crop yield rate is expected to be above the normal average.

Although the rains in July and August helped in the better growth of the crops, but there was a severe lack of rain in September, which worsened the situation.

In its report, GIWA has estimated agricultural production of 177.53 lakh tonnes in the Western Australia province during the year 2024, including 99.10 lakh tonnes of wheat, 43.20 lakh tonnes of barley, 23.55 lakh tonnes of canola, 5.90 lakh tonnes of oats,

5.05 lakh tonnes of lupin and 73 thousand tonnes of pulses. Crop harvesting is going to gain momentum in the coming time.
