The conflict in the Black Sea region remains tense. Following reports on Wednesday that Russia is looking to escalate the situation, concerns have increased. The next four months are normally the peak shipment period for wheat exports.
Export Sales data released this morning showed total 2026/27 wheat sales of 402,531 metric tons for the week ending August 20. This was a nine-week high, but still 30.57% below the same period last year. Mexico was the largest buyer with 78,500 metric tons, followed by Japan with 71,900 metric tons and Vietnam with 65,000 metric tons.
According to the European Commission, EU wheat production is estimated at 124.2 million metric tons, down 0.2 million metric tons from last month’s estimate. Ending stocks are projected at 11.3 million metric tons, a decline of 1.6 million metric tons from the previous estimate.
