9.87 Billion Litres of Ethanol Supplied to OMCs by End of September

New Delhi. During the first 11 months of the current 2025-26 marketing season (November–October)—specifically from November 2025 to September 2026—sugar mills and distilleries supplied a total of 9.87 billion litres of ethanol to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). Ethanol produced from grain accounted for more than 71 percent of this total.

According to a report by the All India Distillers' Association, contracts were signed for the supply of 11.97 billion litres of ethanol for the 2025-26 marketing season. Of this, 82.5 percent—or 9.87 billion litres—has already been supplied, with the remainder scheduled for delivery during the current month (October).

Within this total, ethanol derived from grain (primarily maize and rice) amounted to 7.05 billion litres, or 71.4 percent of the total volume supplied. This represents 77.6 percent of the 9.08 billion litres of grain-based ethanol allocated to distillers, with maize-based ethanol accounting for the largest share.

Of the total grain-based ethanol supplied, 4.13 billion litres came from maize, against a total contracted volume of 6.14 billion litres. Additionally, 2.22 billion litres of ethanol were produced from surplus rice supplied by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and delivered to the OMCs; the total allocated quota for ethanol derived from this rice stands at 2.33 billion litres. The supply of ethanol produced from damaged food grains has reached 700 million litres, which is 100 million litres more than the allocated quota of 600 million litres.

Ethanol amounting to 2,820 million litres, produced from sugarcane-based feedstocks, has been supplied—representing 97.6 per cent of the total allocated quantity of 2,890 million litres. The full quota is expected to be supplied shortly.
