New Delhi. In the current Kharif season, the production area of pulses crops increased as compared to last year.
The increase of 2.80 lakh hectares is a matter of happiness but there is no need to beat the drum for it because this area is far behind in comparison to the year 2022 and 2021. In fact, during the month of June in the year 2023, the condition of the southwest monsoon was weak and the sowing of pulses crops started late.
This reduced the total area. But in the years before that, the area of pulses had increased with the help of good monsoon rains.
The available data shows that during the year 2024, as compared to the year 2023, the total production area of pulses crops during the Kharif period jumped from 49.50 lakh hectares to 62.32 lakh hectares.
Under this, the sowing area of Arhar increased from 9.66 lakh hectares to 28.14 lakh hectares and the area of Urad improved from 12.75 lakh hectares to 13.90 lakh hectares, but the area of moong decreased from 19.57 lakh hectares to 15.79 lakh hectares.
The sowing of other pulse crops was also done in less area. In comparison, looking at the data of the season of the year 2022, it is known that till July 15, the total production area of Kharif pulses had reached 72.66 lakh hectares,
which included the sowing area of Arhar of 25.81 lakh hectares, area of Urad of 18.06 lakh hectares and area of moong of 20.19 lakh hectares. Sowing of other pulses was also done in 8.47 lakh hectares.
Similarly, in the year 2021, till July 15, the production area of Kharif pulses crops was recorded at 66.69 lakh hectares.
At that time, the sowing area of Arhar (Tuvar) reached 31.58 lakh hectares, Urad 15.67 lakh hectares and Moong 15.85 lakh hectares. This time, Tuvar and Urad are being sown well, but the area of Moong is lagging behind.
