Argentina's Soymeal Prices Surpass Brazil's

Buenos Aires: The export offer price for soymeal from Argentina has risen to approximately $7 per tonne above that of Brazilian product. This marks the first time since May 2026 that such a significant gap has emerged between the export offer prices of the two nations. In May, adverse weather forced Argentine farmers to temporarily halt their soybean harvesting operations, driving up soymeal prices.

During September, soymeal export offer prices across South America rose by about 6 percent, driven by robust demand from European Union member states. Importers had shown keen interest in sourcing soymeal ahead of the implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

Trade analysts note that while Argentine soymeal is typically cheaper than its Brazilian counterpart, current market conditions are unusual. A transportation crisis is considered a key factor; most of Argentina's soymeal exports move via the Up-River corridor, but low water levels there have necessitated restrictions on the size, movement, and cargo-loading capacity of large vessels.

Strong demand from the European Union has altered the export pricing dynamics for soymeal between Argentina and Brazil. Spain, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, and Italy remain the primary buyers of Argentine soymeal within the EU.
