New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Food has detected discrepancies in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) details submitted by sugar mills for the period between August 17 and August 19. The Ministry has initiated action against these mills.
A Ministry note states that a thorough examination is underway regarding the differences found between GST records, sales invoices, buyer details, and dispatch/lifting records. Necessary action is being initiated wherever discrepancies are identified. The Director (Sugar) at the Directorate of Sugar and Vegetable Oils (under the Ministry of Food) stated that action is being taken under appropriate legal provisions against the mills where discrepancies were found.
Sugar mills have now been asked to prepare detailed records of sales made between August 20 and August 31. They are required to submit these details to the government by October 10. These details will undergo cross-verification, incorporating GST records and physical verification data.
According to the Director, the government has decided to launch a large-scale physical verification drive starting tomorrow, October 9. Sugar mills must ensure strict compliance with the guidelines. Authorized government officials will regularly monitor compliance while simultaneously conducting physical verifications of the mills. Should any discrepancies be detected, action will be initiated in accordance with the relevant provisions of the law.
