New Delhi. In the coarse cereals category, wholesale market prices for barley and hybrid sorghum are currently trading above the Minimum Support Price (MSP), while the prices for pearl millet and maize have declined. For the 2025-26 marketing season, the government has fixed the MSP at ₹2,150 per quintal for barley, ₹3,699 per quintal for hybrid sorghum, ₹2,775 per quintal for pearl millet, and ₹2,400 per quintal for maize.

At the Jahangirabad market in Uttar Pradesh, the price of barley is currently trading at ₹2,500 per quintal—₹350 higher than the MSP. Similarly, at the Jalna market in Maharashtra, the price of hybrid sorghum has reached ₹4,500 per quintal—₹801 above the MSP.

Conversely, the price of pearl millet at the Seoni market in Madhya Pradesh has dropped to ₹2,100 per quintal—₹675 below the MSP. Likewise, at the Sangli market in Maharashtra, the price of maize has settled at ₹2,135 per quintal—₹265 lower than the MSP.

For both maize and pearl millet, demand appears somewhat weak relative to supply and availability. Although maize prices have shown some improvement in recent days, the market is unlikely to witness a significant uptrend until strong industrial demand emerges. The arrival of new stocks of the Rabi-season maize has begun to increase in several states, including Bihar.
