Vijayawada: The Central Government has approved the procurement of over 1.46 lakh tonnes of tur (pigeon pea), moong (green gram), and urad (black gram) under the Price Support Scheme in Andhra Pradesh, a southern state of India, during the current Kharif marketing season of 2025-26. This will provide significant relief to farmers.

The Union Agriculture Minister has conveyed this information to the Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister through a letter.

The letter states that the Central Government has sanctioned the procurement of 1,16,690 tonnes of tur, 28,440 tonnes of urad, and 903 tonnes of moong in Andhra Pradesh this year.

These pulses will be procured from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). This will help producers receive a remunerative price for their produce.

The letter also commends the Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister for his continuous efforts to protect the interests of farmers and for regularly liaising with the Central Government to secure approval for the procurement of pulses.

The Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister welcomed the Central Government's decision, stating that the procurement process of the aforementioned pulses from farmers at the Minimum Support Price will begin soon, and producers will not be forced to sell their produce at distress prices. The procurement process will proceed smoothly with the support of the Central Government.

The harvesting of Kharif pulse crops has already begun in Andhra Pradesh, but due to weak market conditions, the wholesale market prices are currently below the Minimum Support Price.

Farmers have been demanding the commencement of procurement at MSP for the past several days, and their demand is now being fulfilled.
