Cotton Production Expected to Reach 294.25 Lakh Bales: COCPC
★ The Committee on Cotton Production and Consumption (COCPC) has revised the 2024-25 cotton production estimate downward by 6.7 lakh bales to 294.25 lakh bales.
★ Earlier, COCPC had projected cotton production at approximately 300 lakh bales.
★ Production in Gujarat has been reduced.
★ Gujarat's cotton production is now estimated at 71.34 lakh bales, 15% lower than the previous estimate.
★ Maharashtra's cotton production has been increased by 5% from the earlier estimate to 89.09 lakh bales.
★ As per the balance sheet, the opening stock for 2024-25 is expected to be 47.1 lakh bales, and with an import of 25 lakh bales, the total stock may reach 366.35 lakh bales, compared to 401.58 lakh bales last year.
★ Total consumption, including exports, is projected at 336 lakh bales, down from 354.487 lakh bales last year.
★ A decline in the remaining cotton stock is anticipated.
★ Looking at these figures, cotton availability in the country has decreased due to lower production, but imports have risen.
★ Overall, cotton prices are expected to rise significantly in the future.
