Hyderabad: The government is making vigorous efforts to promote palm cultivation and increase palm oil production in the southern Indian state of Telangana.
The area under oil palm cultivation in Telangana is significantly larger compared to other states, and the state government is providing comprehensive support to palm growers. Consequently, farmers are encouraged.
Recently, the Chief Minister of Telangana inaugurated a palm oil processing factory in Narmetta, Siddipet district, built at a cost of ₹300 crore. This facility has the capacity to process 30 tons of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) of oil palm per hour.
The Chief Minister of Telangana also released a sum of ₹3,447 crore as the first installment of the 'Rythu Bharosa Fund' to ensure financial assistance for the state's farmers, enabling them to procure necessary agricultural inputs prior to the cultivation of Kharif crops.
Approximately 7 million farmers are expected to benefit from this scheme. Three installments of this financial assistance are scheduled to be released within the next 45 days.
The area under oil palm cultivation in Telangana has now exceeded 300,000 acres. The Chief Minister affirmed that even if this acreage surpasses 1 million acres, the government will not back down from procuring the palm produce, nor will it allow farmers to suffer any losses.
