New Delhi. Of course, the central government has increased the minimum support price of cotton by Rs 501 per quintal, but it is doubtful that this will increase the interest of farmers towards its cultivation. Instead, farmers can focus more on increasing the production of pulses and maize.
Although the government has increased the support price of tur to Rs 7550 per quintal, urad to Rs 7400 per quintal and moong to Rs 8682 per quintal,
but the open market price of tur and urad is running higher than the minimum support price, which will prove to be a special attraction for the farmers.
This time the monsoon rains are also going to be good in the major pulse producing states and the weather is expected to be favorable while the market price is already running at a profitable level.
The government can also try to buy pulses at the minimum support price or the prevailing price in the market. If there is good monsoon rain in the major pulse producing states,
then the farmers will definitely try their best to increase its area. The minimum support price (MSP) of maize has also been increased by 6.50 percent to Rs. 2225 per quintal,
which can attract farmers to cultivate it. The government itself is encouraging its production promotion because its industrial demand and consumption is increasing rapidly.
Due to the complex equation of demand and supply, the price of maize reached a high level and the situation became such that it had to be imported from Myanmar.
This time, the sowing area of maize during Kharif season is expected to increase in many states of the country.
On the other hand, the production area of cotton has decreased in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, while there is a possibility of decrease in Gujarat and Maharashtra as well.
