Global production of cotton estimated to reach 1191.40 lakh bales

New Delhi. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its new monthly (June) report has expressed the possibility of global production of cotton increasing to 1191.40 lakh bales during the 2024-25 season, which is 90 thousand bales more than the estimate of the May report.
It is known that in India many bales of cotton weigh 170 kg, but in America it is considered to be 480 pounds or 217.72 kg and USDA uses this measurement. According to the report,
global consumption of cotton during the 2024-25 season can be 1169.40 lakh bales, which is 80 thousand bales more than the previous estimate.
Under this, consumption is likely to increase in Myanmar and Vietnam while it is likely to decrease in some other countries.
The report said that during the 2024-24 season, India may produce 250 lakh bales of cotton and Brazil may produce 167 lakh bales, which is almost equal to the previous estimate.
During the 2024-25 season, the global outstanding surplus stock, production and use of cotton is expected to increase, while its global trade is estimated to remain at 449.50 lakh bales.
The global surplus stock of cotton is expected to be 835 lakh bales at the end of the marketing season, which is 4.80 lakh bales more than the May estimate.
India has estimated the import of 15 lakh bales of cotton during the 2024-25 season, which is equal to the May estimate, but on the other hand,
the estimate of cotton exports from India has been reduced from 20 lakh bales to 19 lakh bales. Cotton sowing has already started in India. Cotton sowing has been completed in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and has now started in the southern states.
