Global Walnut Output Seen Up 4% at 2.735 Million Tonnes

Shanghai. Although weather changes are expected to cause a decrease in walnut production in some key countries and an increase in others, overall global production is projected to increase by approximately 4 percent, or 116,000 tons, from 2.619 million tons in the 2024-25 season to 2.735 million tons in the 2025-26 season.

Countries where walnut production is expected to decrease compared to last year include China, Turkey, India, and Hungary. On the other hand, production is expected to increase in countries such as the United States, Chile, Ukraine, Romania, Iran, France, Argentina, Spain, Moldova, Portugal, and Italy.

Compared to the 2024-25 season, walnut production in the 2025-26 season is estimated to decrease from 1.55 million tons to 1.5 million tons in China, from 48,000 tons to 40,000 tons in Turkey, from 33,000 tons to 30,000 tons in India, and from 10,000 tons to 12,000 tons in Hungary.

Conversely, walnut production during the period under review is estimated to have increased from 547,000 tons to 645,000 tons in the US, from 135,000 tons to 168,000 tons in Chile, from 89,000 tons to 101,000 tons in Ukraine, from 40,000 tons to 53,000 tons in Romania,

from 21,000 tons to 22,000 tons in Argentina, from 13,000 tons to 20,000 tons in Spain, from 18,000 tons to 19,000 tons in Moldova, remained at 15,000 tons in Italy (same as the previous year), and increased from 11,000 tons to 12,000 tons in Portugal. In other countries of the world, walnut production may decline from 26,000 tons to 25,000 tons.

China is the world's leading producer of walnuts, accounting for approximately 60 percent of global production. There is strong domestic consumption within China. India imports large quantities of walnuts from several countries.
