Government Procurement of Rabi Crops in Rajasthan
★ Procurement of mustard and gram will begin from April 10. Wheat procurement has already started.
★ The procurement target has been set at 1.38 million tonnes (13.8 lakh tonnes) for mustard and 0.63 million tonnes (6.3 lakh tonnes) for gram.
★ According to the Agriculture Department, mustard has been sown in 3.38 million hectares (33.8 lakh hectares) this year in the state, with production estimated to exceed 5.5 million tonnes (55 lakh tonnes).
★ Last year, mustard was sown in 3.9 million hectares (39 lakh hectares), and production was over 6.2 million tonnes (62 lakh tonnes).
★ Heavy arrival of new mustard has started in the state’s mandis. It is reported that 1.3 to 1.5 million bags (each bag 80 kg) of new mustard are arriving daily across the country, out of which 0.75 to 0.8 million bags are arriving in Rajasthan alone.
★ The quality of mustard this year is better. The new mustard contains only 2-3% moisture and oil content ranges between 40% and 43%.
★ This year, gram has been sown in 2 million hectares (20 lakh hectares), and production is estimated to be around 2.5 million tonnes (25 lakh tonnes).
★ Gram production in the state may increase by 20-25% compared to last rabi season.
★ According to the Agriculture Department, wheat production in Rajasthan this year is expected to be similar to last year, while the production of barley and gram may increase. However, mustard production may be lower than last year.
★ This year, barley has been sown in 0.3 million hectares (3 lakh hectares), with estimated production exceeding 1.4 million tonnes (14 lakh tonnes).
