Government Begins Mustard Procurement in Haryana & Assam
New Delhi – The Central Government has commenced the procurement of mustard from farmers in Haryana and Assam at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹5950 per quintal.
According to NAFED, as of March 20, over 864 tonnes of mustard had been purchased in these two states, and the process is ongoing.
National-Level Mustard Procurement
✅ Total Approved Procurement: 15 lakh tonnes for the 2024-25 Rabi season.
✅ State-Wise Breakdown:
Madhya Pradesh – 4.90 lakh tonnes
Uttar Pradesh – 4.79 lakh tonnes
Haryana – 3.36 lakh tonnes
Gujarat – 1.29 lakh tonnes
Chhattisgarh – 3,050 tonnes
Assam – 62,744 tonnes
However, Rajasthan (India’s largest mustard-producing state) is still awaiting an official procurement target.
Market Price & Production Estimates
📉 Market Price Below MSP:
In Rajasthan, mustard is currently trading at ₹5200-₹5350 per quintal, much below the MSP of ₹5950 per quintal.
📊 Production Decline Expected:
The Union Agriculture Ministry's second advance estimate predicts mustard production at 128.73 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, down 3 lakh tonnes from 132.59 lakh tonnes in 2023-24.
Industry-trade organizations estimate an even lower production of 111.30 lakh tonnes (down from 115 lakh tonnes).

Telangana – 1,972 tonnes approved at ₹7,280 per quintal
1,033 tonnes already procured (as of March 21)
✅ Groundnut:
Telangana & Andhra Pradesh – 80,127 tonnes approved
✅ Safflower:
Karnataka – 3,168 tonnes approved
